THE WIDE GRIP PULL UP
When grasping the bar your arms should be as wide as feel comfortable. The wider you are able to keep your arms the more you will be placing full emphasis on your Latissimus Dorsi (Lat) muscles. Naturally over time you will start develop a nice “V”-Taper shape that so many desire. I have also noticed that as I have incorporated more Pull Ups into my back workout routine that my back definition has become much more prominent and visual. Wide Grip Pull Ups have now become a staple in my back routine and may just be my favorite back exercise as well. Glad I can have something in common with one of my favorite action heroes, now I just need to learn how to do the splits.
NICE AND EASY
When doing Wide Grip Pull Ups you should never go to fast or swing your body, this isn’t that kipping Bs… You should have complete control of the motion throughout the entire movement. As you pull yourself up try to get your chin up above the bar for a full muscle contraction. If you are unable to get your chin above the bar, eye level is not okay but lets just say your a work in progress.
As you lower yourself down keep your arms extended wide and go down until you feel a nice full stretch of your Lat muscles then pull yourself back up. Remember, keeping control during the entire movement is very important and will maximize the work being placed on your back and lat muscles.NOTE: At the bottom of the Wide Grip Pull Up movement don’t let your elbows lock out all the way. Go down as far as you can without locking your elbows or just hanging from the bar and then pull yourself back up to the top of the movement. A lot of the time I find myself doing a count of four ie; 1 one thousand 2 one thousand 3 one thousand 4 one thousand.

I have seen how having nice V-Tapered back really can make an impact on your physique. A large V-Taper makes your waist look smaller, and a smaller waist makes makes everything else appear bigger.
